Infrastructure
Roads: The region’s accessibility is underlined by the dense network of international and national roads, which link the Tri-City with Southern Europe via Slovakia (E-75, E-77), with Eastern Europe via Kaliningrad (E-22) and with Western Europe via Germany (E-28). The A-1 motorway, currently under construction, will provide an important link between the north and south of Poland and increase the attractiveness of Gdańsk and Gdynia ports. It will also open up even more opportunities for setting up business in a number of industries. An important transport route, the Via Hanseatica is designed as an express road to run along the coast from north-east Germany via Poland to Sankt Petersburg via Kaliningrad and the Baltic Sea States. Ports: Two commercial seaports, Gdańsk and Gdynia, and numerous fishing ports, e.g. in Ustka and Łeba are situated in the region. The ports are easy to navigate with convenient sea access, offering safe and accurate marine navigational information. The Port of Gdańsk – can receive the biggest vessels sailing on the Baltic. Its increasing cargo handling statistics and new projects (to build Poland’s biggest deep container terminal plus a continuous improvement of the current infrastructure) are designed to strengthen the port’s position as one of the Baltic Sea’s biggest and most modern ports. The Port of Gdynia – Poland’s biggest general cargo port is proud to be one of the Baltic Sea’s leading ports as a container handling port. With foreign investment in the container and grain terminals, the port will be able to increase its handling capacity, a must for a facility with the biggest number of regular commercial services in Poland. ![]() Rail: The Pomorskie Voivodeship has links with all of Poland’s major towns and several European cities. There are services, among others, to Berlin, Kaliningrad and via Warsaw to Prague, Grodno and Sankt Petersburg. Lech Walesa Airport, situated 16 km from Gdańsk city centre, offers direct services to Warsaw, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Copenhagen and Munich. Low-cost airlines are very popular, with connections from Gdańsk to Dortmund, Cologne / Bonn, Lubeck, Frankfurt, London, Dublin, Edinburgh, Oslo, Liverpool and Stockholm.
